Numb

Love lived, love lost. Fires burn, then get extinguished before they can blaze into brilliance. Think of it, a fire killed in it's infancy, leaving only the wet coals behind. It seems like an unforgiving curse; the one bestowed upon me.I have become so numb.

I wish it hurt.

The Complete Psymon's Tale (so far)

What can I say?

I couldn't think of what I could possibly say to him, not even an opening gambit. I was stood up against the lockers, feeling naked and abashed, and he was right there; looking confident and devilishly handsome in his Etnies trainers, skinny-fit jeans, and Criminal Damage shirt.

He was my most recent in my ever-growing line of male crushes, but I had a good feeling about this one. Forcing myself to be confident, I strode up to him and asked the simplest of questions. I still managed to mess it up, as I do with an unequivocal panache. I meant to ask him if he wanted to catch a bite to eat after class ends, but it came out like this:

"Hey Jacob, I was wondering if, I mean, would you... you know."

"No, I don't know." He said, giggling slightly, not in a sour way. No , quite the inverse. He was sweet - sweeter than his predecessors in my crush list.

That's what drew me to him: his personality. That, and his fascinating aesthetics. If I was a religious boy, I'd say he was crafted by angels of the highest artistic capability. As I am not, I'll just admit that he's really hot. His skin: white as snow, his face: dignified (he defiantly looks older than his years should allow). But, his most spellbinding feature: his hair. Oh, his hair!

He was playing with his coils of pure gold as he continued his end of our discourse. "You're going to have to tell me Psymon. I'm not a psychic. C'mon, I don't bite, without asking first." He finished his quip with his usual giggle. That sweet sound that drives me insane when in math class; but this giggle was because of me, it was special.

"Well." I stammered "I was wondering if, and you can completely say no, I'd understand..."

"You're going off on a tangent, Psy. If you're going to say something: say it." He paused, with a wave of realisation crashing over him. "Oh! You're nervous." He giggled at this. "Just do what I do. Picture people in their underwear, it really helps me."

I did picture people, well person, and it did nothing for my nerves. My libido sky-rocketed though. Thanks Jacob, I never knew you were a briefs boy. I took in a deep breath, and prepared to continue.

Then the bell rang.

"Oh, it's end of lunch already? Damn, I have to head off to home ec in a minute, but I was wondering." Jacob paused, picking his words carefully. "Do you want to go for a bite to eat after class ends?"

"Yeah!" I blurted out, only slightly too quickly. Jacob noticed, as he giggled. I paused and said "I mean, I'd really like that."

"Great. It's a date then." Jacob said "Can I pick you up at the main entrance?"

"Sure."

"Great, I gotta go. I'll see you later then Psy." With that he walked off down the hall to home economics.

"I'll see you later" I whispered.

I did no work in my math class, next period.

I paced the back and forth in front of the main entrance for the hundredth time, only stopping in front of a polished plaque to wonder if I had been stood up, and to make sure my appearance was fine just in case I had not. My psychotic grooming was interrupted by a face suddenly behind me.

"Boo!" I jumped near half a mile, well that may be a slight exaggeration, but I still jumped. "Hello handsome, did I scare you?" That familiar voice, mixed with that unmistakable giggle, informed me that my evening plans didn't involve a walk to the bus stop alone, just yet.

"No, you didn't scare me." I lied. I was a terrible liar, and this one was as clear to see through as glass. Really, really see-through glass, that had recently been cleaned multiple times over.

"Sure, whatever. So, where do you fancy going then? There's that new pizza place that's just opened up, it's only a five minute walk from here." I didn't mind where we ate, as long as I ate with Jacob. I was lost within Jacob's delicate features; my gaze must have been that of an obvious daydreamer. "Oi, Psy! Pizza?" I was blushing. "Yeah, pizza. Why not."

It took more than five minutes to walk up to the pizza joint, neither of us minded though; we talked about our day, well Jacob talked - I listened. I don't know if this has come across yet, but I'm not the most confident of guys; I'm not a social pariah, but I'm no party animal. I don't know why, it's just how I have always been I suppose. But I was determined to work through my issues; I'd denied myself the opportunity to date in the past, and I'd had it.

We rounded the corner and entered the restaurant. The diner was an ultra-modern space with lights embedded into the floor and base of the booths. Jacob and I took a booth by a window. We parked ourselves onto the leather seating, facing opposite one another. We discussed what pizzas we would have. We decided upon a pepperoni pizza to share between us.

As we waited for our meal, Jacob and I decided to exchange facts about ourselves. I learned that Jacob was into cooking and musical theatre, and he learned that I liked fashion and literature.

"So do you have any siblings?" Jacob asked

"One, an older brother. You?"

"Nah, only child. Your turn."

I was holding up fairly well, becoming a bit more confident around Jacob and his captivating charm. I had the perfect question. "Do your family know... about, you know?"

"You mean me liking guys? It's hard not to know when your the constant focus of two people's attention. I take it your's don't."

I swallowed. "It's not like I haven't tried to tell them, but I can never seem to find the perfect moment. I get too nervous anyways. I know that seems a little weird considering I'm out at school, but I like to keep the school separate from the rest of my life."

"Then what do you call this?" Jacob punctuated his victory with his usual giggle.

I paused, for what seemed to me like an eternity, but what was realistically only five seconds. I managed to whisper the two words. "A risk."

Jacob had his entire attention on me. He looked deep into my eyes, and smiled softly. "Some risks are worth taking." We stared into one another's eyes. His: sky blue, calm and inviting pools in which I was finding myself being ensnared within, and I welcomed the pull.

We were interrupted by the waitress, a young black haired woman, about twenty or so. She served our pizza with a smile and a cheeky remark: "You boys behave now, and have fun."

We continued our discussion, but focused more on what boys we found cute, and stayed clear of the serious matters. I enjoyed the mixture of pepperoni and conversation. I went to reach for the last slice and found my hand upon Jacob's. He didn't say a word, instead he upturned his hand and held mine back. "Can I walk you back home Psy?" Suddenly forgetting about the last slice, I quickly paid half of the bill (Jacob payed the other), gathered my jacket and left the diner with Jacob.

We arrived at mine at about half past seven. The evening light kissed Jacob's skin, illuminating it beyond beauty; but this was my home, and my parents would never understand, nor forgive, me if I reacted upon my adolescent temptations.

"Well, this is me. Thank you for tonight. I really enjoyed it."

"Same here. Ooh Psy, you still have some sauce on your lip." Without warning he put his finger to my lip and wiped the sauce from the side of my mouth. I liked Jacob's touch, but to do it in public was confusing to say the least. " Well, goodnight." As he turned away, the evening glow reflected off of his blonde curls. "Jacob" I said. He turned to face me again, smiling softly. "Yeah Psy?"

I walked up to him, and gave him the briefest of hugs. I came to the conclusion that if anyone saw the sauce be wiped from my lip, and didn't mind, they wouldn't mind this. "I'll see you tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow Psy."

We finished our embrace, and went our separate ways. I turned and walked up my path. With a song in my heart, and a spring in my step, I opened my front door.

"Who was that dear?" Said my mother with more than a hint of bitter curiosity.

The song stopped.

"It's nothing mum, he's just a friend." I suddenly sunk back into my insecurities. I skulked off to my room before anymore could be said on the matter.

My room is my sanctuary, my clearing in the crowded unforgiving forest of my home life. The walls are a multicoloured abstract of my design. We moved here last year, but I decided to leave a wall blank. "Tonight" I thought "I'll change that." I locked my door, adorned my headphones, and let the music take over.

By the time I had finished, it was the late hours of the night. I stepped back and looked at my soundscape dedicated to Jacob. It was magnificent, to match him. Golden swirls kissing creamy whites, blacks complimenting aquamarines, complex yet delicate. I loved the intricacies of the wall.

I lay in my bed and stare at my sexuality, a complex canvas of blues and blacks and hidden secrets. Sinking into my pillows, I thought about today's events: standing by the lockers, my insecurities, his confidence, our date. Sinking further into slimber one name was on my mind.

Jacob.

My First Day

My first day at school was horrible. All the kids picked on me, called me names, even put pins in my chair! It was horrible. I couldn't imagine a more hellish place in which I would spend my years.

That's the moment that I realised I wasn't a good teacher.

The Excuse

"Lewis! You didn't post a single story yesterday."

"Well, I apologise. I had plans for yesterday."

"Lewis, would you care to tell us all what they were."

"If you must know, I had a date."

"Lewis, I know you. You didn't have a date, did you?"

"No... No I didn't."

Buses

Buses are the worst mode of public transport. It's slow, packed, and the people on buses are scum.

There's children, crying for attention and mothers giving it to the undeserving brats.

Then there's the obtuse teens, playing their obnoxious music.

Worst of all, there's you. You know what you do.

The Tea

"Would you like another tea?"

"Ooh, why yes thank you. So, tell me about the house."

"Well, it's got two..."

"No, no, I know all the boring details. Tell me the interesting things."

"It's haunted."

"Haunted! Really?"

"Yes, I'm serious. Who on earth do you think made all the tea?"

My First Kiss

We were alone. I was close enough to feel the heat radiating from his body.

I couldn't care less for the entertainment, my adolescent instincts had other plans for the evening.

I leaned closer, he looked up. Before we knew it both of us were one.

Ah, my first kiss.

The Cinema

The elderly couple made their way though the crowded cinema. They noticed the surprising amount of youthful faces ready to enjoy the latest documentary by Sacha Baron Cohen: The Dictator.

They made their way to their seats, and parked their rears.

After ten minutes, they realised this wasn't quite right.

Rampage

The youth stomped in disjointed unison throughout the crowded shopping complex. They had their target in their sights and wouldn't relent until they had done what they had set out to do.

She was scared

Running from the hooded gang. she stopped, and was cornered.

"Miss, you forgot your handbag."

My Thoughts on Sexuality and the Media

Preface: I may be doing a few of these from time to time; it's just nice to express my opinions on matters from time to time.

So: sexuality in the media.

Now, I can't speak for anybody but myself, but I feel that sexuality is represented in the media in a generally positive light; but it could always bee shown in a more delicate, and less obvious light.

From what I understand, over the years homosexuals have appeared more and more in the media: whether as a cautionary tale about how we are demonising children, to being the butt of a joke, to the cliché of the (and note that I use this word with a severe sense of hate) fag and his hag, to homosexuality today. We're a lot closer to acceptance today when compared to fifty years ago, but there's still work to be done.

Now I am not a media geek, and I don't know everything about every book, television show, or video game, but it appears that most, I'll admit not all, times that there's a gay character in a given piece of media text; their sexuality is waved about like a giant flag. Take something like Waterloo Road, or Eastenders: both of these shows have gay characters portrayed really well, yes, but they get labelled as "that gay one."

Modern media is so close to achieving total acceptance of gay people, and as such they're so close to opening the doors to a more tolerant public, specifically youth. Take race, for example (yes I realise race and sexuality are two completely separate subjects, but hear me out): nowadays, we can sit down and watch a film, and there could be a black person in it as the lead role. Decades ago, this would have never happened. Nowadays it's a non-issue. Why? Because society has learned that where a person is from doesn't affect their intellectual or physical abilities. Why can't we get the same for sexuality?

Imagine this: you're sat down in a cinema with a bunch of your friends. You've decided to see the latest action film that's come out. The protagonist is your standard action hero: physically fit, cocky attitude, et cetera. Half way though the film he's deep in the building that the terrorists are set to detonate in just under forty minutes. He locates the hostages, and one of them just happens to be his boyfriend. They kiss, our hero frees everybody. The film continues.

Now, I don't know of any film like that (if you do, feel free to let me know) but wouldn't it be great to see a film like that, or play that story as a video game, where homosexuality is treated as such a non-issue?

Perhaps it's me looking too close again, and wondering how the grass could be greener. I do think that the media depicts gay people in a positive light, I just wish we had more leading roles.

If you have any thoughts on the matter, please post a comment.

Guilt

It's heart wrenching, seeing a dear friend be trialled and convicted. Witnessing him walk down to the solid police van that will cart him off to a maximum security prison, where he will spend the next twenty years.

As the drove off, I finally realised what the word alibi meant.

Kitty

"Aaaw, what a cute kitty."

"Can we pet him? Pleeeeeeeeease?"

"No kiddies, he's fast asleep."

"Aaaw, ok." They said exasperated.

The cat in question was the fluffiest, cutest, cat ever.

"How much for him, then?"

"For you two? Forty quid."

When they got home, they realised that he was stuffed.

Tuesday 5 June 2012

At the Laundrette

"Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I had a really messy day at work. Can you clean this?"

The woman in the laundrette looked at the clothes with a look of shock.

"Oh, yes, I take it you're a doctor then?"

"Hitman."

Evolution

"Here children, did you know in millions of years fish will be as smart as humans are today. It's true!"

This was the thousandth time that I had heard the teacher give the talk on evolution, each time the same story.

"What do you mean, millions of years?"

Everyone gasped.

Prey

He loaded his clip into the Beretta 8000, an Italian semi-automatic handgun fitting for the task at hand. The eight round magazine slided into place with an audible click that ricocheted throughout the darkened warehouse. Thankfully his mark wasn't here yet, as such he remained undetected; crouching behind storage crates in the night's embrace.

He heard the car before he saw the headlights gleaming through the side door. He could tell that there was only one car approaching, and he knew that another was to arrive shortly. The headlights shone into the warehouse, even though the car had stopped and it's occupants were making their way inside.

He knew he could peer out and observe the first batch of arrivals, but he had no need. He would make his appearance soon enough. Delicately checking his equipment, he made sure his emergency escape plan was viable. He felt for his hip, and his had met the five and a quarter inch tube that could potentially save his life.

The occupants of the first car said nothing, but they easily made noise. He could tell that there were only two people, besides himself, in the warehouse; and one of the enjoyed smoking. He wasn't one to judge, but he didn't much care for the habit.

Five, or so, minutes had past, and not a word was said. Then the sound of an approaching vehicle driving up the dirt path could be heard, a second set of headlights illuminating the, now rather well lit, warehouse confirmed the arrival of his mark.

Soon after, the sound of a single pair of feet walking towards the middle of the floor could be heard as clear as day.

"I take it, you have my money." This was a statement rather than a question, and it came from one of the first arrivals. The speaker's accent was a thick Russian assault, punctuating the severity of this meeting.

"Yes, yes I do." This one, the mark, French."And you have the package." Once more, a statement rather than a question.

"You don't doubt me, do you?" With that the silent observer peered round from behind his sanctuary. The three men in the room all looked as though they were not virgins when it came to this branch of shopping.

The mark stood a comfortable distance from his business partners. He was clad in the uniform of the Armée de Terre, excluding any discernible patches denoting regiment or rank. The mark was holding a steel briefcase that shone in the glow of the headlights.

The other two were more casually dressed. Both dressed in denim and leather. One, the one who didn't speak, was holding a briefcase of a similar fashion.

"Do you know something?" The French man asked

The onlooker was curious, He suspected that the reason these two conversed in English was due to the fact that there was no other common language for the two to share.

"I know a great many things, but I have the feeling you are going to tell me something I do not." the cold Russian tongue bringing an air of malice to the already cold encounter.

"It's always wise to come to these type of meetings with reinforcements." With that, he drew a Barretta 92FS, the standard French military sidearm, from his hip and fired. Two exclamations Perforating the silence of the night.

"I know you're here assassin. Flee whilst you can."

He debated taking his shot, but something distracted him. He felt the ground beneath his feet vibrate as if an earthquake had decided to rear it's head. Then, from nowhere, one of the walls was greeted by an AMX-10P. The newly created hole spawned a squad of eight, all clad in the same uniform.

"Get the packages, and kill the assassin."

That's when he decided to abort the mission.

Tony

Tony was an addict. That was why he was here. everybody knew, but nobody cared.

He'd been like this for years now; even when he was little he'd been warned time and time again, by his parents mostly, but he never listened to them, ever.

See, Tony really loved cookies.

The Special Day

They strode down the isle, father and daughter. Onlookers weeping profusely.

This was her special day, her one chance to be a princess. She wanted every eye in the room to be gazing upon her, and that's exactly what she received.

She stopped halfway down, and then noticed the coffin.

Teddy

We go everywhere, teddy and I.

We go to the park, the river, even school. everyone loves teddy, but me the most. He's soft and fluffy, cuddly and cute. I love my teddy, he's my best friend. But I'm getting too old.

So, goodbye Teddy. I will always miss you.

The First Time

We were at the top of the cliff, at long last. The view was phenomenal. Sapphire crashing into the cliff's face, spraying him with salt and peace.

I took Kyle's hand and sat town in the afternoon sun. Nothing was said for nearly five minutes, then I beckoned him to come closer; leaning into me, he kissed my neck and asked if I was ok. I hushed his small talk with my tongue. I was a diver exploring my favourite cove, a soft and relaxing place in which I could find solitude.

We finished our encounter and gathered our breath. I closed my eyes, and felt complete. "I love you." That was the first time I had said those words to him. It felt right, natural to be able to say those simple three words.

As I opened my eyes, I was met with the sun kissed skin of Kyle passionately smiling. "Thank you, I know you meant that. I can't wait for the day I will be able to say that."

Now some people may have been shocked to have their boyfriend reciprocate your feelings of love with gratitude, but I knew Kyle, and he knew I. I was grateful that he didn't announce his feelings of love at the same time as me; then it would have been faked. He is honest enough not to say something like that without being sincere.

I kissed his lips, and lay upon his stomach. We slept to the sound of crashing waves.

The Confession

"What? Really?"

My secret had been spilled, but my audience didn't seem to mind.

"I'll make your cape"

"Yeah, you'll look fantastic. It will be great."

They paused

"Wait, what exactly is your power?"

I paused.

"I can levitate about a meter over grass."

They burst out laughing.

"That's shit."

Be Polite to Thy King

Clitter clatter, splitter splatter. In the kitchen, preparing batter.

For the king, and his court.
Who're notorious for their warts.

Never say that in their grace, or one may have loss of face. Face and hand, feet and leg. Hung upon courtyard peg.

So zip your lip and get cooking

Innocence Lost

"Mummy, why is daddy so grumpy all of the time?"

"Well Jakey, daddy is busy most of the time. He doesn't want to be interrupted by you all the time."

"But, I only want to play."

Thirty years later.

"Daddy, will you please play with me?"

"Piss off, I'm busy

Reality TV

"Oh my gawd! Look at my super de duper sixteenth birthday party! Thank you RTV!"

The television sparkled with the over-the-top birthday party celebrations of the spoiled brat.

"Who would watch this crap?" I blurted out.

"Shut up" cried the chorus of teenaged girls sitting in my lounge.

The Concert

The crowd went wild. Cheering and raving like a pack of mad animals. Thousands upon thousands of them

The bright lights were traversing the stage, illuminating the platform to which we were to perform.

A sinking sensation flooded over me like a tsunami. I realised that I couldn't play guitar.

The Tree

"What a marvellous tree. Did you know that it's magic?"

"Magic? There's no such thing as magic grandad."

"It's kept me alive these many years, and I'm as fit as a fiddle. This tree is the only thing that's stopping you getting a very large inheritance."

Chop!

No more tree.

Buried

"Shit! Help! Let me out!"

I pound and bash against the roof of my tomb, praying that I will find a singular weakness, a crack or a flake. Nothing.

What did I ever do to warrant a punishment like this?

I close my eyes, and accept the ever consuming blackness.

Small Town Newspaper

"What shall we call it?"

"The gazzette?"

"Not original."

"The Pomplehorse?"

"Too original."

"Well we need a replacement name, and fast. We're receiving too many complaints."

"We could always change the name of the town. Who calls a town Mushy, anyway?"

They couldn't decide, so the Beaver stayed another week.

Timmy the Train

Chugga chugga chugga chugga, chugga chugga choo.

Timmy the train, that's my name. I'm here to travel with you.

We'll go here, we'll go there. With the highest speed, and utmost flair. I'll make sure you enjoy the ride, and make your stop on time.

Chugga chugga chugga chugga choo!

The Writer

He writes.
He wrote.

He thought.
He did.

He asked
He obeyed.

The writer sat at his desk, pondering what to pen next. Then the idea struck him, a bolt of lightning to the brain.

He sat back, smiling.

"Did I just write a story about me writing a story?"

The Life of a Goldfish

Swimming over here. Swimming over there. Swiming over, swimming under. I swim without care.

Ooh, what's this? A little castle, how queer. And there's the front of a tiny boat, but where is the rear?

I get the sinking feeling that I'm forgetting something, something rather important.

Swimming over here.,.

Serenity

Serene

That's how I'd describe my current situation.

I'm lying here, at a thirty degree sngle staring into the captivating blue.

The sky is dotted with clumps of white softness.

One looks almost like a rabbit.

I giggle to myself, and keep looking into the daytime sky.

Oh, how peaceful.

Puppies

"Yap yip yip yup!"

The wag of a tail.

"Aaw, what a cute pup. I want it."

"Yup yip yip yap"

Miss, at this age, they are prone to mishap."

A skitter over her, a tumble, and a scatter.

"That's fine, it does not matter"

He went home, got fatter.

Paramour

Oh good God!

That was more than pleasure. That was the epetomy of ecstacy. Passionatly, I kissed his temple and prayed for more of this divine gift.

He wispered sweet nothings into my soul. They meandered though me like the sweetest music one could imagine.

"I love you" he said.

Monkey Business

Marvin the monkey wished he could fly.

Pierre the panda told him he couldn't.

Marvin didn't care, he knew what he must do. He trained and trained for days, making sure that he was as fit as he could be.

He ran and jumped.

Then he noticed his cage's window.

Jelly

"Mummy, mummy, save my tummy. It feels like it's gonna explode!"

"Calm down you silly dummy, you've eaten up a load. You daft girl, jelly is bad for you, you know?"

"Bad for me, how so? I could never give it up."

"Jelly's bad, my girl."

And then I hurled.

Heartstrings

I could have sworn I'd returned the key to your heart, but where's mine?

You kept it, and visit my sanctuary as you see fit. You pluck and plunder at my heart, and her secrets.

This invasion of privacy isn't the worst of it all:

I invited you to come.

Fruit Man

Oranges, apples, bananas, pears.
I am the fruit man, a man without cares

All the boys, and all the girls, they queue for miles around,
Most from here, but many from distant towns.

"A pineapple, sir"
"A pineapple? A request so rare, I must oblige"

He leaves, with sparkling eyes.

Discourse

"'Tis cold."
"'Tis."
"Why must we wait for her? She shan't come."
"She shall."
"How much will you wager?"
"Nothing."
"How so?"
"My love is pure, no money could I accept from you."
"How noble, yet I'm the one paying"
"Shush, she's here."
"Why are you talking to yourself dear?"

Birthday Wish

The flame drew ever closer, cheers grew ever louder, I grew more and more anxious with each passing second.

I closed my eyes, and thought long and hard about what to wish for.

No more poverty?
No more wars?

No, I had it!

No more bedtime!

What, I was four.

Psymon's Tale Pt. I

I meant to ask him if he wanted to catch a bite to eat after class ends, but it came out like this: "Hey Jacob, I was wondering if, I mean, would you... you know." "No, I don't know." He said, giggling slightly, not in a sour way. "Well." I stammered "I was wondering if, and you can completely say no, I'd understand..." "You're going off on a tangent, Psy. If you're going to say something: say it." He paused, with a wave of realisation crashing over him. "Oh! You're nervous." He giggled at this. "Just do what I do. Picture people in their underwear, it really helps me." I did picture people, well person, and it did nothing for my nerves. "Do you want to go for a bite to eat after class ends?" "Yeah!" I blurted out, only slightly too quickly. Jacob noticed, as he giggled. I paused and said "I mean, I'd really like that." "Great. It's a date then." Jacob said "Can I pick you up at the main entrance?" "Sure." "Great, I gotta go. I'll see you later then Psy." With that he walked off down the hall to home economics. "I'll see you later" I whispered. I did no work in my math class, next period.
